Persis is a social worker and a legal aid attorney; she has over a decade of experience directly representing low-income families in the Greater Boston area. She has spearheaded multiple successful lawsuits against the federal government and big banks to protect working families from exploitation, and led national coalitions of civil rights, labor, veteran, and consumer advocates to drive policy change improving the lives of millions of students and consumers.Outside the courtroom, Persis is a leader—in her church, in her children’s school, and across her community. Persis makes change with creative energy and a collaborative spirit to build up the organizations that make these neighborhoods our home.<ul><li>During COVID, Persis steadily carved a path forward for her church, ensuring that members could maintain a sense of community while staying safe.&nbsp;</li><li>As a parent council leader, Persis fought to ensure that every student has the resources they need to succeed in the Boston Public School system, from helping to address food insecurity during COVID, to fundraising to ensure students had access to first class science software, to organizing community meetings with school and local officials to give parents an opportunity to learn about our communities’ response to threats from ICE.&nbsp;</li><li>As a community organizer, Persis educated voters on the power of ranked choice voting as a means to increase participation and amplify voices in our democracy. Persis continues to fight tirelessly to create opportunities for real people without corporate slush funds to run for office, and to improve our election system to better reflect the will of the people.&nbsp;</li></ul>Persis doesn’t just talk about participation and inclusion—she embodies it.Let’s build a government that works for us!

March 11, 2026This week, I got an email from my heating oil company.It started with "To Our Loyal Customers" — and my stomach dropped before I even read the rest.They were writing to tell me that because of the conflict involving Iran and global energy markets, the cost of heating oil is going up. Again.The company was apologetic. They said the price increases are "truly out of our control." And honestly? I believe them.&nbsp;The Trump Administration’s escalation of this forever war means that a crisis happening halfway around the world lands directly on our kitchen tables. It means the cost of keeping our families warm — a basic human necessity — can spike overnight, through no fault of our own, with no warning and no relief in sight.But this isn't just about oil. Education is vital to a well-functioning democracy. Every child deserves access to safe and quality education—regardless of their family’s income or zip code. Massachusetts has made great strides in expanding access for low-income families but it is still too far out of reach for too many. To make matters worse, the Trump Administration is attacking higher education on all fronts so it can limit access to higher education to only the wealthiest white students and punish colleges for providing education that promotes democracy or ideologies Trump doesn’t agree with. Without comprehensive action, Massachusetts’ progress in this space is at risk. Persis has spent her career working to ensure that getting an education does not result in a lifetime of unaffordable debt.As senator, Persis will:<ul><li>Provide free college for all students across the Commonwealth to ensure that no student is trapped with unaffordable debt in order to get an education</li><li>Defend against efforts to eliminate affirmative action and other policies that promote racial and economic opportunity for students of color and low-income students, and promote equitable access by banning legacy admission to Massachusetts universities&nbsp;</li><li>Fight for stronger free speech protections on college campuses for students, faculty, and staff</li><li>Protect students from predatory private companies looking to profit off families desperate to provide a better future for their children and achieve the American dream</li></ul>

Massachusetts must expand its investment in climate-smart infrastructure so every neighborhood can breathe easy.
