This week, I got an email from my heating oil company.
It started with "To Our Loyal Customers" — and my stomach dropped before I even read the rest.
They were writing to tell me that because of the conflict involving Iran and global energy markets, the cost of heating oil is going up. Again.
The company was apologetic. They said the price increases are "truly out of our control." And honestly? I believe them.
The Trump Administration’s escalation of this forever war means that a crisis happening halfway around the world lands directly on our kitchen tables. It means the cost of keeping our families warm — a basic human necessity — can spike overnight, through no fault of our own, with no warning and no relief in sight.
But this isn't just about oil. This is about a system that leaves working families exposed and vulnerable to every shock, every conflict, every corporate decision made thousands of miles away — while the people who are supposed to represent us in the State Senate do nothing.

I believe democracy starts at home. It starts with whether you can afford to heat that home, pay the mortgage, cover childcare, and still have something left over at the end of the month. When families are stretched to the breaking point, democracy itself is weakened. And right now, too many families in our district are being pushed to that breaking point.
Fortunately, I know how these systems work. And I know how to fight back.
Massachusetts is one of the most expensive states in the country to live in. But we can change that.
In the State Senate, I will fight for:
Energy relief for families: expanding access to clean, affordable home energy and breaking our dependence on volatile fossil fuel markets.
Real cost-of-living solutions: affordable housing, universal childcare, and a fair economy where families, not billionaires, come first.
Corporate accountability: holding the banks, lenders, and energy companies that profit at families' expense to account.
But I can't do any of this without you. I need your help. Together, we can turn anger into action.
Democracy starts at home. Let's make sure every family in this district can afford theirs.
For all of us,
Persis Yu
Candidate for State Senate
